During the last week of July I drove down to visit my family in Eastham, MA where they were renting a cottage by the ocean. I haven't been to Cape Cod in a few years and decided to explore the area where we were staying. I stumbled across the Cape Cod Lavender Farm in Harwich which I luckily found it during their last week of harvesting! My Mom, Aunt, Grandma, sister, and my cousins girlfriend liked the sound of the farm and all took a trip to see what it was about.
We arrived to find scattered fields of lavender, a little shop full of lavender goodness, and their sassy farm kitty. Inside the shop there were lavender stems drying from the ceiling, soaps, lavender sachets, buckets of lavender flowers, and farm merchandise. I walked away from the farm with some lemon lavender marmalade that I was dying to try.
Thats when I found out about the PB Boulangerie in Welfleet. I absolutely love anything carb related and could eat it exclusively until the day I die. I drove up to this little restaurant and it did not disappoint. They had a beautiful selection of pastries, baguettes, salads, lunch foods, cheese, and various french goodies. I walked out of the boulangerie with a salad, two pastries, a baguette, and a blood orange soda. I took all of my food to go because I wanted to try my new lemon lavender marmalade with the bread I bought.
I treat my sister to this little lunch while the rest of the family was lounging at the beach. We both really enjoyed the simplicity of our meal, and the sweet yet savory spread of cheese and marmalade on our bread.
These pastries were as good as they were pretty! I really had no regrets indulging in my afternoon of food. I usually try and make fancy deserts that I see and get inspired by, but these are pretty detail oriented and might just leave these for the pro bakers out there. I'll just enjoy these for the time being until I start feeling really ambitious.
Remember to go out and enjoy something simple and sweet today.
